Just my...
I first visited Belgium over 30 years ago. The beer was a revelation. I'd never had Trappist beer before and in fact I'd never heard of it. I then visited Belgium a few times per year on businesss and holidays for the next 25 years. I tried lots of styles and liked many, but the Trappist Double became my favourite. Rochfort being the very best. Complex flavours that are very enjoyable. Incredible how good this beer is. Best if served not too cold, maybe 6 to 8 C. Enjoy.

A Good Stable Trappist Beer
Them Belgium Monks know what they are doing, and they got this one right. Not my favourite Trappist but still right up there!

Surely one of the best beers!
First time ever tried Trappist beer, and now I understand why it’s the best. Can’t wait to try all other Trappistes. Very rich and sticky malt, heavy body but not overwhelming. Creamy peach like fruity first impression, and complex floral flavours followed. Recommend to drink it not too chilled unlike normal beer.

Iconic Trappist Dubbel
Trappistes Rochefort 6 by Brasserie de Rochefort / Abbaye Notre-Dame de Saint-Rémy
BJCP 18B Belgian Dubbel, ABV 7.5%, IBU 18, EBC 40, OG 17.5°P
To my mind this defines a Trappist Dubbel. The first mouthful reveals the lightest touch of coriander which skilfully livens up the richness of the malt. Although Rochefort use their own yeast, it is still reminiscent of Chimay and without the stronger phenols of Westmalle yeast - a good compromise. My first encounter with this brew but hopefully many more to come - if I could brew something similar I'd be a happy man.

An all time favourite
More difficult to find than Rochefort's 8 or 10, the 6 is apparently brewed to much the same recipe as its higher ABV siblings but lacks none of their character. Phenols balance the malt more than in other Trappist dubbels and the lower alcohol content means I don't fall asleep as quickly as I do with a 10. Recommended if you're looking for something not as voluptuous as most Belgian dubbels.

Good(3*)
Mild alcohol nose. Dense head and viscous, smooth mouthfeel. Stonefruit finish. Easy drinking for 7.5% ABV.
